860 m2 – une sélection d’œuvres du FRAC Rhône-Alpes
28 avril - 9 juin 1996

When le Magasin’s proposal was launched to realize an exhibition in its space, the question of the FRAC‘s vast reserve became complex, as did the way of showing the subjective selection of works, which was especially stimulating.

Several parameters became apparent for this project:
First of all, a common will to present works rarely exhibited in the area, in any case not at le Magasin, which was sometimes a challenge, because the FRAC’s recent acquisitions register or stimulate artistic propositions in the area. (Summer 93, Nouveau Musée Villeurbanne / Cosmos, Magasin Grenoble / Avant-Première, ELAC Lyon / Aperto, Nouveau Musée Villeurbanne).

A unanimous wish is also to extract from the collections some relevant works that take the current young generation’s concerns into account. (Questions concerning identity, the body and society).

Finally, the dynamic articulation of these choices led us to establish a 5-room trajectory, as a kind of synopsis, from the intrinsic logic of the 860 m2 that the visitor can take in.

You can see for the first time or rediscover works by (shown in this order):
. Marylène Negro, Thomas Schütte, Jack Goldstein, Roland Fischer, Philippe Thomas, Harald F. Müller.
. Eric Poitevin, Stephen Willats, Frédéric Meynier, Gilles Barbier, Bernard Bazile, Guy Limone, Jean-Jacques Rullier, Peter Klasen.
. Joachim Mogarra, Ming, Thomas Struth, Hannah Collins, Alain Séchas, Ben, Cindy Sherman, Bruno Yvonnet, Art Keller, Balthasar Burkhard, Luciano Castelli, Rainer Oldendorf.
. Yannick Miloux, director FRAC Rhône-Alpes.

During the opening on April the 27th in the auditorium, Jean-Baptiste Bruant will present a performance, “Background noises” (“Bruits de fonds”). Some characters perform to music by the artist, dressed in costumes created for the occasion by Agnès B.
