L'année 1996 est marquée par le dixième anniversaire de l'ouverture du Magasin, Centre national d'art contemporain de Grenoble. Après une période de 15 mois sans directeur, il renoue avec ses missions fondamentales avec la nomination d'Yves Aupetitallot en décembre.

D'avril à septembre, les architectes Roche, DSV & SIE ont installé Paysage n°5, environnement consistant en un nuage suspendu en plastique gonflé et des îlots mobiliers. C'est dans cet espace que Liam Gillick et Gabriel Kuri ont proposé le calendrier de la Fête au quotidien (28 avril - 14 juillet). Jouant entre fiction et réel, ils ont inventé des fêtes. Le public était invité à créer ses propres modes de commémoration. Ainsi le «Jour du skateboard», le «Jour du vélo», ont-ils suscité des réactions enthousiastes.

This year marked the tenth anniversary of the opening of Le Magasin, Grenoble's contemporary art center. After a 15-month spell without a director, the appointment of Yves Aupetitallot last December saw the place getting back to basics.

From April to September, the architects Roche, DSV & SIE installed their Paysage no. 5, (Landscape no. 5) an environment consisting of an inflated plastic cloud suspended above islets of furniture. In the space thus created, Liam Gillick and Gabriel Kuri presented the calendar of their Fête du quotidien (Festival of the Everyday) from 28 April through 14 July, inventing various celebrations halfway between fiction and reality in which visitors were invited to create their own modes of commemoration. The "skateboard" and "video" days in particular were greeted with great enthusiasm.
